Last week, I found myself looking for an old pattern of a lovely blue bird that I created back in August of 2022. I was so disappointed to find out that I do not know where I uploaded the Procreate version of the pattern. I was able to find a high-resolution JPEG file and decided to just go ahead and use that. I wanted to create additional colorways of this pattern with various color backgrounds since it is a lovely watercolor bird with an old camera and some branches, perfect for birding, bird lovers, and nature explorers.
Since I had to do a bit of recoloring using Affinity V3, I decided to make a video of the process and share it on my YouTube channel in case there are others out there who need to do the same. In the video, I show two methods for changing the background color of a pattern from a JPEG file. I show a method of making the selection and creating a new layer with that selection, then using that selection and adjustments to create various backgournd colors. The second method I show on the video is making the selection but using a mask layer instead, and making adjustments to the masked layer to create different color backgrounds.
I hope you take a look and hopefully learn something new!
