Today, I am super excited to share that I have launched a YouTube channel to share a bit of my process on how I create some of my collections, bring you with me in painting sessions, and share some tips and techniques for surface designers that can be helpful and bring efficiency to their surface design process.
In the video that I am sharing today, I show my process on how I turn a mixed-media art piece into a seamless repeat pattern. I use both Affinity Photo and Affinity Designer to create the pattern tile from the original watercolor mixed media art.
First, I adjust slightly in Affinity Photo, make a selection of the area that I want to use in my pattern, and head over to Affinity Designer to try different options for the pattern. Once I am happy with the pattern layout, I use the healing brush tool to remove hard edges and sharp lines at the borders of my repeat. Finally, I test the tile using the gradient tool.
This is an easy way to turn hand painted, watercolor or mixed-media art into a fun repeat pattern to add to a surface design collection. I now have a lovely mixed media art print and a fun pattern added to my portfolio.
